Task 2: Proposal Development

My team and I are required to build upon our initial proposal and develop it into a comprehensive final design proposition. This involves curating our production process, where we must demonstrate resourcefulness and creativity in managing resources and potential risks while ensuring our solution remains effective in real-world applications.

To support our proposal, we need to justify our design decisions with relevant research, case studies, and analyses that reinforce our approach. Our design solution should directly address the needs of our target audience, introducing a new product or service that offers unique social, cultural, or economic value.

Additionally, we are expected to focus on the execution details, ensuring our work aligns with the UI/UX design standards. This includes careful attention to organization, content structure, presentation formatting, aesthetics, and overall design style. Ultimately, this task challenges us to bring our concept to life in a meaningful and impactful way.

    Work Process

    Task 2: Design Proposition

Essentially this task is all about how we combined our previous user interview findings together to form a complete project user planning and solutions.

    Our task 2 outcomes include:

    • Project Summary
    • Problem Statement
    • Topic Explanation
    • Project Aim
    • Target Audience
    • How Might We Overcome Issues
    • Summary of User Interview
    • User Personas (Artisans, Enthusiasts, General Public)
    • User Journey Map
    • Proposed Solution

    Chapter 1: Task Distribution
By compiling and importing our previous affinity diagram on our user interviews together into the FigJam board, Winnie started to divide us into different parts to complete, such as the affinity diagram and analysis of traditional crafters, cultural enthusiasts and general audiences, the user personas and user journey map for the three types of users: artisans, enthusiasts and general audiences as well as the proposed solution for our project.

The reason we have multiple user personas and user journeys is that our user groups not only focus on a type of audience but the combinations of all the types of people to make a culture pass down to the next generations.

Thus, prior to the previous interview experience with the Kebaya dressmaker and the cultural enthusiasts as well as the general audience, I went on to provide assistance focusing on the user personas of the Kebaya dressmaker and the general audience. I also help to complete our team's proposed solution, compiling all the solutions inside our Canva presentation slides.

With these, our team are able to refer to our solutions and have a clearer direction on what we will be producing as our desirable outcomes of major projects.

    Our Ideas for Solution

Chapter 2: User Personas, User Journey
Referring to the user interview compilation and analysis conducted by both Winnie and Si Yan, I began making two user personas with the template provided by Winnie for a consistent information layout across different groupmates.

During our feedback with our supervisor, she suggests we not use the original interviewee's own image due to the personal consent issues (for data protection), and to avoid further problems arising during the project later on.

Thus, interviewees' photos are switched out from all of our user persona pages, ensuring there are no privacy issues with our newly added substitute images that still resemble the users.

Following the analysis and my previous user interview data, I proceeded to make a user persona graph on the traditional Kebaya dressmaker, highlighting the user description, characteristics, attitudes and values, motivations and goals, needs and pain points and also some potential scenarios faced by the user.

According to my user persona, I also predetermined a scenario tailored to the user, resembling real-life situations that can happen in her life, such as handling a custom order from her customers. In my user journey map, I present the user's actions, touchpoints, emotions, pain points and possible solutions following a step-by-step process from the start to the end of the scenario.

Now, moving on to the general audience's user persona and journey map, I carefully studied the user interview data again and made it a reference for my user persona.
Lee Kim Ho - User Persona for General Audience

By studying the shared experience from the previous user interview, I went on to make a user journey adhering to the potential scenarios faced. This map mentions his journey through casual interactions with Baba Nyonya culture and how he realizes his role in promoting the culture.

    Chapter 3: Solution Brief, Proposed
Understanding what we can contribute to the disappearing culture as UI/UX designers, we aim to create digital engagement platforms utilizing the modern interactive and immersive website platform, as well as AR technology to aid us in achieving our goal.

    Our proposed deliverables:
    • Immersive walkthrough gallery website
    • Interactive wayang kulit session
    • AR souvenirs
Progressively, I documented and described our ideas for solutions after some discussions with my team on what possible outcomes could be achieved.

    My reflections

    Observations
Through our user interviews, we noticed a strong pattern—many of our interviewees, despite coming from different backgrounds, shared similar challenges and concerns about the fading of Baba Nyonya culture. This consistency in responses reaffirmed our initial hypothesis that the cultural decline is a widespread issue, not an isolated one. It was insightful to see that different user groups, whether artisans, enthusiasts or the general public, recognized common struggles, which helped us align our project’s direction toward addressing these shared concerns.

    Experiences

Creating user personas and journey maps was a challenging yet eye-opening process. It required stepping into the mindset of different users and thinking from their perspective—how they navigate cultural experiences, what motivates them, and what obstacles they face. While it was difficult at times, working with responsible and proactive groupmates made the task much more manageable. Their support and collaboration kept me optimistic about our major project.

Although there was no particular sense of reward in the traditional sense, I found value in understanding how different perspectives shape user experiences. This realization reinforced the importance of focusing on key user needs rather than adding unnecessary features. Designing an immersive website for cultural preservation isn’t just about making something visually appealing—it’s about addressing real concerns and ensuring meaningful engagement.

    Findings

This task gave me hands-on experience in applying user-centered design principles. It became clear that a successful website isn't just about aesthetics but about how well it caters to its intended audience. By ensuring our design meets the needs of all user groups—artisans, enthusiasts, and the general public—we can create a more compelling and effective platform for cultural preservation.

Additionally, putting my understanding of user research into practice reinforced how crucial this process is for my future career. This experience has given me a deeper appreciation of how thorough user research directly influences the success of a design. Moving forward, I will carry this mindset into my future UI/UX projects, ensuring that every design decision is backed by real user insights.
