Project 1: Animated Infographic Poster
After learning about the information design by further applying the L.A.T.C.H principles into the second assignment, I started on developing an infographic that presents a series of different processes as visuals. This assignment allows us to tackle on existing infographic posters, which can be revamped and enhanced to provide a better comprehension of the content.

According to the blog VisualComplexity.com, Manuel Lima’s Information Visualization Manifesto provides a working list that can help to provide clarity on what information visualization is through 9 directives and why information visualization differs from information art or infographics. The Nine Directives:
- Form Follows Function: I understand that purpose should always come first—the way I present information should explain and lead to insight rather than just looking good. My work should always have a clear intention behind it.
- Interactivity is Key I’ve discovered that interactive elements encourage exploration and discovery. Instead of just presenting static information, I now see how interactivity can enhance learning and engagement for users.
- Cite Your Source I’ve come to realize how important it is to credit my sources. Initially, I didn’t think much about it, but I now understand that transparency and credibility are crucial in both design and research.
- The Power of Narrative I used to focus purely on presenting facts, but I’ve learned that storytelling makes information more engaging and memorable. By turning data into a compelling narrative, I can make complex ideas easier to understand.
- Do Not Glorify Aesthetics At first, I believed that aesthetics were everything. However, I now see that design should never prioritize visuals over purpose. Aesthetics should enhance function, not distract from it.
- Look for Relevancy I’ve learned to always ask myself: Why am I visualizing this information? In the past, I sometimes created designs without thinking about their true relevance. Now, I ensure that everything I design serves a clear purpose.
- Embrace Time Managing time effectively used to be a challenge for me, but I’ve come to realize that time is a crucial factor in both design and decision-making. By improving my time management, I can organize my workflow better and achieve stronger results.
- Aspire for Knowledge I now understand that information visualization isn’t just about displaying data—it’s about turning data into knowledge. My goal is to help people understand and process information more effectively.
- Avoid Gratuitous Visualizations
At first, I thought adding more visual elements made a design look better, but I’ve learned that clutter can reduce clarity. Now, I focus on making sure my designs filter information effectively and enhance insight rather than create noise.

Work Process
The Beginning
After some searching, I came across this poster about the patients' data privacy and ways to secure them. I noticed that the entire poster is filled with text and little graphics that are out of place all over the poster.
The problems with this poster:
- Cluttered text information
- Lack of information hierarchy
- Lack of necessary white spaces

Initially hard to decide a design style as I'm searching for a visual style that matches the vibe of the poster I'm planning to create. After some considerations, I decided to follow the design style that I've loved during my time playing with a mobile game called Zenless Zone Zero, a game filled with a bold and simplistic approach to the text and UI graphic. Thus, I carried on to shift my design focus for a bold approach.
I also created visual graphics by myself to match the content I want to convey by utilizing the pen tool and shape tool in Adobe Illustrator. I also keep the graphics' color consistent across all the others.
